I know Autism is very hard to understand. I often wonder if Carter has been diagnosed wrong and if he is just a naughty or weird boy. Videos like the following give me a harsh reminder of my reality. Yes I can be thankful! I can be thankful that my son has made a lot of progress, that he is on the high function spectrum and that I am his most favorite person in the entire world. I am also thankful for the program through the Davis County school district and that is free of charge. I see some major flaws in the program, but at least they are doing something to help children like mine.
Am I judged? Yes, I am judged as a parent. Rude comments are made in almost every situation from family parties to people at church (yeah that one place you should feel peace). I am sick of people telling me Carter should be potty trained. Seriously do people think I enjoy cleaning crap off a 3 almost 4 year old? Seriously, I potty trained Whitney, Michael and Janika all at the age 2 so back off! I am sick of people calling the police when he is screaming, I am sick of people saying that I need to discipline him better. A few people in my life totally understand what is going on and to you people (you know who you are) thanks for your love and support, thanks for all the information you gather to help Carter and thanks for a listening ear.
This video is what I want to show the world, so I will start on my little blog.
The first video is very long, but it is well worth watching. The second is a music video, that made me ball like a baby.

Oh Karolyn that video made me cry. It is so painful for you and I wish I could be by your side everyday to help you. Carter is an amazing handsome little boy whom God knew needed you. Thanks for sharing.
I am going to share this with another one of my boards where there are 2 ladies with sons who have autism.

I'm sorry that some people haven't been understanding about Carter's autism. He is fortunate to have you for his mother. We've wondered if our son might have a mild form of autism and we're taking him to a developmental pediatrician soon to get it checked out. I don't really think he does, but there are some developmental delays there (he too is almost 4 and still not potty-trained) that need to be checked out. I'll let you know what we find out!
Oh how we love Carter and wish that others might be more helpful to our daughter and son in law as they carry this heavy burden. They need help and prayers from every one who knows about Carter. We can only hope some day they will know what causes this so it can be stopped.
